Karen Milton serves as the Executive Deputy Inspector General for Operations and Chief of Staff for the Inspector General.
Ms. Milton comes to the Office of the MTA Inspector General after serving for over 2 decades as Circuit Executive of the Second Circuit, being both the first woman and longest serving Circuit Executive in the Second Circuit’s history. Among other accomplishments in this role, she acted as Chief Operating Officer on matters of governance, policy and compliance; led the implementation of a space-management program across the entire Circuit and managed multiple courthouse construction projects, including renovations to the historic Thurgood Marshall United States Courthouse; and administered all non-judicial activities of the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. Ms. Milton began her career as an Assistant District Attorney in the New York County District Attorney’s Office under the late Robert M. Morgenthau.
Ms. Milton is past President of the New York Women’s Bar Association and continues to serve as a Director, a member of the New Lawyers Institute Advisory Committee of the New York City Bar Association and a former Board Member of the Sonia & Celina Sotomayor Judicial Internship Program. Additionally, Ms. Milton serves as a Board Member of 2 University of Pennsylvania alumni entities: Penn Performing Arts Regional Council/NYC and the Alumni Interviewing Program.
Ms. Milton received her JD at Case Western Reserve University School of Law, where she was an Editor of Law Review, and received her BA, cum laude, at University of Pennsylvania. She is admitted to practice in New York State as well as in the United Stated District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
